Why You Need a Skincare Regimen

Why You Need a Skincare Regimen
By Heather Rose

You know the routine - a little of this, a little of that - some of the products seem to work great and others you can't quite remember what they are supposed to do. Your stockpile of cleaners, toners, serums, moisturizers, and masks is enough to warrant a dedicated shelf and a line item on your home insurance policy. It really doesn't have to be this way.

You already know the basics of skincare - wash your face, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect with sunblock. There are other products to address specific skin concerns. But don't buy a little of this and a little of that, try it for a week or two, and then move on to the next product. The key is having a regimen.

A regimen is simple and it does two things. First, it is your routine. Once you get used to the products you are using, the order of using them and how often, your skincare will become second nature and very effective. Like anything we do, getting into that routine is the hardest part - once you are there, its smooth sailing!!!

The second very important reason for a regimen is the mix of the ingredients. There more products to choose from than I'd care to admit. The key is to find the right mix of products for your skincare concerns. This is really important because the effectiveness of the ingredients is not only what's in one product, but how the products work together, and what order that you do them. In my business, we call this Multi-Med Therapy. Several cosmetic companies use the regimen approach, typically with three core steps and two or more additional products depending on your needs. Thankfully, many regimens are available to tackle the most common skin problems such as aging and sun damage. The regimen approach assures that you are using the right products together, delivering the right medicines, in the right formulations, and in the right order to transform your skin.

Skin conditions can be complex and no single ingredient can effectively treat a complex skin concern. The regimen approach gets you in the routine and maximizes your results by using products that work together to make the solutions simple and easy-to-use. Find the line of skincare products that work best for you and get in the routine of using them as directed. Always include moisturizer and sun protection. In just a few weeks, you can have a significant impact on the look and feel of your skin, and more importantly, your overall skin health.
